5 sweet specialities in Bordeaux

Be my cookie - Vert Bordeaux

One of the most enjoyable moments when visiting a city is, of course, the little sweet breaks in the middle of the afternoon, the ones that reward several hours of walking. It’s a wonderful way to discover local shops and succumb to a sweet tooth. And we can tell you that Bordeaux has no shortage of temptations in this field! Here are 5 addresses for sweet breaks to give you some ideas.

Cassonnade - 53 rue Saint-James

Cassonnade - Vert Bordeaux

Let’s start with the classic: the cannelé! If you were lucky enough to take part in our Bordeaux, sweet & discoveries tour, you may already be familiar with this address, which we love. Located at the foot of the Grosse Cloche, Cassonnade is an independent shop specialising in cannelé. The kitchens are located just behind the shop and make the cannelés all day long. Freshness guaranteed! In addition, most of the ingredients are organic, and there are even vegan and alcohol-free versions.

A place to come back to again and again.

On y revient sans modération.

L’atelier des pastéis - 10 rue Saint-Rémi et 44 rue des Trois-Conils

L'atelier des pastéis - Vert Bordeaux

If you’ve ever been to Portugal, and Lisbon in particular, surely you’ve already tasted this Portuguese speciality. L’atelier des pastéis was founded a few years ago by a Portuguese man who wanted to reproduce the authentic taste of Portuguese pastéis. And he succeeded! The pastéis are delicious, with the comforting taste of milk and cinnamon.

The shop only sells this pastry and coffees, so you can be sure that the pastéis were made just a few hours ago.

A little marvel.

Les puits d’Amour - 58 cours Portal et marché des Capucins

Le puis d'Amour - Vert Bordeaux

The people of Bordeaux are very familiar with this speciality from Captieux, in the south of the region. Created by Maison Seguin and sold since 1944, the puits d’Amour (“well of love”) is a pastry made with a very light cream, caramelised on top, placed on a crunchy pastry shell. Although the shop only sells this pastry, it has had the good idea of making two other versions: lemon and chocolate.

A great excuse to try three instead of one!

Be my cookie - 55 rue des Remparts et 74 rue du Pas-Saint-Georges

Be my cookie - Vert Bordeaux

It’s an understatement to say that cookies have been all the rage in recent years. Bordeaux now has several shops specialising in making and selling this pastry that comes straight from the United States. Our favourite is certainly Be my cookie, which opened in 2019. Working mainly with organic products, Be my cookie offers a very wide choice of cookies, as well as cookie dough. Generous and moist, we love the dark chocolate/banana and matcha tea cookies.

Just talking about them makes us want to go there.

Pâtisserie David Capy - 7 rue Michel Montaigne

Pâtisserie David Capy - Vert Bordeaux

If you’re looking for a pastry shop with a wide selection of top-quality products, we recommend David Capy, chocolate maker and pâtissier. Awarded “meilleur ouvrier de France” (“best craftsman in France”), this little shop in Bordeaux’s Golden Triangle sells both chocolates and pastries, each as delicious as the next. Fruits, chocolates, hazelnuts, pralines… if you can’t find a pastry that suits you, you’re really picky.

A top-notch cake shop.

Now that you’ve had your fill, you might be wondering where you’re going to dine tonight? That’s perfect, we’ve got a list of restaurants just for you.
