Whether you’re passing through Bordeaux to visit the city and the region, or looking for a restaurant to have lunch with your colleagues, you may be wondering where to go for a simple, fresh lunch in Bordeaux.
Here’s a short list of 7 fresh, affordable restaurants in different parts of the city.
Marie Curry - 15 rue Causserouge
Opened just a few months ago, this restaurant is ideally located between Place de la Victoire and Cours Victor Hugo. It’s in an old building that has been restored and which houses a number of committed businesses. Marie Curry is about responsible, committed cooking, working with local produce and a zero waste approach. But above all, the chefs will take you on a journey to their home countries, Syria and the Congo, for a lunch full of flavour and a refreshing change of scenery.
And for those who’d like to be outside, there’s a terrace!
Café Joyeux - 31 rue Sainte-Colombe
In the very pleasant rue Sainte-Colombe, not far from the Nomad restaurant mentioned here, is the Café Joyeux Bordelais. Café Joyeux is a type of restaurant that can be found in several towns in France and which contributes to the professional inclusion of people with mental and cognitive disabilities.
The menu includes simple dishes such as croque-monsieur, quiches, salads and cookies, all at very affordable prices.
A great place to eat while supporting a positive cause.
Horace - 40 rue Poquelin Molière
Already very well known in the area (we advise you to book or come early), Horace is an excellent value for money restaurant for lunch (or even dinner) in Bordeaux.
While the restaurant offers a few essential dishes, the menu changes every week, offering meat dishes, fish and a vegetarian option. We also recommend that you take your sweet tooth a step further and try their desserts, which are well worth it.
DS Café - 18 place du Parlement
Ideally located, the DS Café is situated at one of the corners of the Place du Parlement, just behind the Place de la Bourse. With its cosy interior, front-row terrace and small, more discreet outdoor table, you’ll quickly feel at home at the DS.
Add to that the fresh, healthy food, some with Mediterranean influences, and the homemade fruit juices, and you’ve got the perfect place for a lunch break before getting back to work (or a guided tour?).
Marché des Capucins
Finally, let’s head south to one of the city’s must-sees: the Capucins market. It may not be ideal for a lunch break when you’re working, it’s true, but for visitors who want to see a landmark of Bordeaux life while stopping for lunch, it may be the perfect place. While the building itself is nothing special, the place is worth visiting for its atmosphere and the many small restaurants that gravitate around it.
There’s plenty to choose from, and if you’re not sure, you can start with a typical Bordeaux starter: 6 oysters and a glass of white wine.
Santé!
Les Récoltants - 18 rue Sainte-Colombe
Here’s a restaurant out of sight, serving only local produce straight from its farm! Located at the back of a grocery shop, Les Récoltants is an ideal neighbourhood restaurant for lunching and enjoying simple, tasty food.
Supplied by an organic farm 20 km from Bordeaux, Les Récoltants is both a small grocery shop and a committed restaurant that respects the seasonal nature of its ingredients. With a €22 weekday menu (starter-main course-dessert), you’ll be hard pressed to find better value for money in this part of Bordeaux.
There’s something for everyone, including vegetarians!
Crêperie Saint-Georges - 51 rue Saint-Rémi
If there’s one French speciality you can find in any town, it’s the Breton galette! Tasty, adaptable to all tastes and budgets, and served quickly, it’s the ideal lunch for those on a tight budget who still want to go to a restaurant. In the centre of Bordeaux, in the touristy rue Saint-Rémi, is the crêperie Saint-Georges, which comes to us straight from Brittany. Forget the kitschy decor of traditional crêperies, here the decor is sober and classy, and the prices are surprisingly low! There’s also a wide choice of galettes and crêpes, all named after… George: George Clooney, George Michael etc.
