5 wine shops in Bordeaux

5 wine shops in Bordeaux

L'Intendant Vert Bordeaux

If you’re looking for a place to buy wine, here’s the list of Bordeaux wine shops you need! In our previous article on wine bars, we already mentioned ComplanTerra, which we really like and which specialises in organic, biodynamic and natural wines, but there are obviously many others!

Wherever you are in the city and whatever your budget, there’s bound to be one to suit you!

Où que vous soyez en ville et quel que soit votre budget, il y en aura forcément un qui vous conviendra !

Le Clos des Millésimes - 3 rue Lucien Faure

Clos des Millésimes Vert Bordeaux

Opened in 2017, Clos des Millésimes is located near the Cité du Vin tram stop in the north of Bordeaux. While the shop may not seem that big at first glance, it actually has over 4,000 references, ranging from entry-level wines to rare bottles at (very) high prices. In particular, there are many organic wines and references from all regions of France and several foreign countries. Their website also gives you access to their catalogue, so it’s ideal for spotting wines or ordering online!

We like: the number of references and the advice from the staff.

L’Intendant - 2 allées de Tourny

L'Intendant Vert Bordeaux

Perhaps the best-known cellar on this list, L’Intendant is almost an institution in Bordeaux. Ideally located on the Allées de Tourny, this wine shop specialises in Bordeaux wines, particularly the Grands Crus, but not only! The place is also worth a visit for its atypical layout: the shop unfolds along a winding staircase, allowing you to admire the different wines from the region. That alone is worth the stop! A must for those looking for classic Bordeaux wines.

We like: Bordeaux wines showcased in a dedicated boutique.

Mondowine - 174 rue Achard

Mondowine Vert Bordeaux

Here’s a very original and atypical wine shop, located not far from the Cité du Vin in the Bacalan district. As its name suggests, Mondowine specialises in wines from around the world. While there are plenty of French wines on offer, it is above all foreign wines that are sometimes rare in France: wines from Moldavia, Bolivia and Georgia, for instance.

Another special feature is that bottles rarely cost more than €20, so it’s easy to find French and foreign wines at low prices. A bargain you wouldn’t want to miss out on.

We like: the low prices and the online catalogue.

Cousin & Compagnie - 2 rue du Pas-Saint-Georges

Cousin & Compagnie Vert Bordeaux

Founded in 1993, Cousin & Compagnie is one of the oldest independent wineries in Bordeaux. It played a pioneering role in introducing and marketing biodynamic and natural wines from the mid-2000s.

Today, 90% of the cellar’s range is made from organic, biodynamic or natural wines. These bottles, from family-run estates and independent winegrowers, are all available from its online shop.

We like: the commitment to sustainable viticulture and the intimate atmosphere of the shop.

Le Sobre Chartrons - 24 quai des Chartrons

Sobre Chartrons Vert Bordeaux

Located on the quayside in the Chartrons district, Le Sobre, created by a winemaker and a wine merchant, is also a bar. It offers a wide range of Bordeaux and French wines, as well as some very fine bottles at reasonable prices from more confidential countries. It’s an opportunity to make some great finds and break with your usual drinking habits.

The wine bar is also interesting because it offers service by the glass using Enomatic technology: you insert a card, choose your wine and the quantity of liquid (3, 6 or 12 cl) and the machine serves you automatically. A great place to taste prestigious or old wines without breaking the bank.

We like: the wide range of wines and the wine bar.

And if you don’t drink alcohol, most of these cellars now offer alcohol-free wines. Otherwise, Bordeaux is full of independent boutiques where you’re bound to find what you like best.
